Swift's Label Boss Hits Out At Grammys Criticism
|
Taylor Swift's record label boss has come to her defense following criticism of the star's duet with Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks at the Grammy Awards last week.
Swift enjoyed a night to remember at the ceremony, taking home her first four Grammys, including the coveted Album of the Year prize, and stepping on stage with music icon Nicks.
Some critics took aim at Swift's less than pitch perfect performance, but Scott Borchetta, head of Big Machine Records, insists the 20 year old was struggling with technical difficulties.
He tells The Associated Press, "We had a volume problem in the ear. So, she was concerned that she wasn't able to hear everything in the mix. That's just part of live TV. So you're going to have difficulties on occasion. Unfortunately, on one of the biggest stages, we did have a technical issue. She couldn't hear herself like she had in rehearsal."
And he's urging critics to stop putting the young star down.
Borchetta adds to The Tennessean, "She is the voice of this generation. She speaks directly to (her fans), and they speak directly back to her. This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It's not about that technically perfect performance."
